Over the past three decades, Geenen DeKock Properties has developed, managed, and maintained over seven million square feet of properties in Michigan and Indiana. Based in Holland, Michigan, Geenen DeKock strives to preserve the history, integrity, and beauty of the town we are proud to call home.

Geenen DeKock Properties started as a developer of shopping centers but for quite some time, we have had a vision of expanding Holland’s charming and vibrant downtown further toward the shores of Lake Macatawa. Together with our sister company, GDK Construction, our vision is becoming a reality.

Eighth Street boasts a wonderful array of shops, eateries, and businesses that make our “main street,” a prime destination for both locals and tourists. With Geenen DeKock’s development of Eighth Street between River and Pine, we are ”Marching to the Waterfront” and adding to the array of places to live, shop, work, dine, and enjoy entertainment.

While the expansion of downtown Holland is currently one of our most visible developments, we specialize in retail related property well beyond Holland City limits. Through decades of experience, we have developed property management strategies that provide value and efficiency all while protecting the aesthetics and integrity of the surrounding communities.


Geenen DeKock Properties got its start in the mid 1980’s. Doug DeKock, a former practicing CPA, and Chuck Geenen, who had been working with computers to help streamline and automate the building industry, teamed up with Chuck’s father, Ade, to form a commercial construction company. Through their partnership Geenen DeKock Properties and sister company, GDK Construction formed.

Geenen DeKock quickly earned a reputation as a leading shopping center developer in the West Michigan area. Holland and the surrounding areas were experiencing a growth boom at this time. Manufacturers were adding space and jobs and families were moving to West Michigan from other parts of the country. People also discovered that the Holland area is a wonderful place to retire. Geenen DeKock Properties helped to fill the needs that were being created during this growth. Many of the shopping centers, grocery stores, and condominium communities that still serve this area were developed by Geenen DeKock during that time.

During this building and development boom, Geenen DeKock Properties and GDK Construction earned a solid reputation with the finest area subcontractors. We maintain these relationships today. Subcontractors know that we treat them fairly and pay them promptly. This assures that we construct and maintain top quality buildings.

Doug, Chuck, and the quality team they have assembled have a keen knack for looking towards the future and working and strategizing to plan and develop facilities to meet these needs. As downtown Holland was becoming more and more of a destination, they recognized the demand for retail and housing space was going to be greater than the current supply and began working towards expanding our “main street” and its offerings.

We are proud of the Holland community and its heritage. With each new development, maintaining the history and integrity of the town we are proud to call home is of the utmost importance. This commitment is evident as we expand Holland’s nationally recognized downtown further toward Lake Macatawa. The block of Eighth Street between River and Pine Avenues will soon offer more housing, restaurant, retail, and entertainment options and will blend in seamlessly with the beautiful, history rich downtown Holland area.

Geenen DeKock Properties is a Commercial Development company with properties in West Michigan and Northern Indiana. We have developed over 7 million square feet of commercial space most of which has been for national tenants in power shopping centers.

Most of our properties have been developed for our own company and we still continue to manage them in house. We also have worked with many tenants on finding and acquiring land or property to develop a space that works for them.

We have also developed several large scale condominium projects totaling almost 500 units as well as some residential plats with over 100 lots. Our current residential consists of apartments and condominiums in downtown Holland that we are currently in the process of building.
